WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, today released the following statement following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the case of King v. Burwell:

“The Supreme Court’s decision today does not take away from the fact that Obamacare is fundamentally broken and that the administration has recklessly implemented this law, damaging our health care system as a whole and jeopardizing Kansans’ health care. Every day Obamacare continues to hurt millions—just last week the administration released the proposed premium increases for 2016, rising to as high as 38 percent for some in Kansas. Doctors are becoming increasingly unavailable to their patients, and employers continue to cut jobs and hours. I will continue to fight for real reforms to our health care system that lower costs, lift the burden on our job creators, and restore the all-important relationship between a doctor and their patient. We don’t need to fix Obamacare, we need to fix health care.”

Last week, Roberts spoke on the Senate floor ahead of the ruling, emphasizing the costs of Obamacare to the economy and the American people, and that he will continue to fight to repeal the law and replace it with true reforms to the health care system. For video of the speech, click here.

Since the health care reform debate in 2009, Senator Roberts has been an outspoken opponent of Obamacare. Roberts fought against the flawed plan in both committees, and voted against the legislation on the Senate floor. Roberts, the co-chair of the Senate Rural Health Caucus, has supported several measures to repeal Obamacare in the five years since its enactment, and continues to support full repeal.
