Senator Roberts: USDA Extends CRP Emergency Grazing for Kansas Ranchers in Response to Wildfires
Jun 16 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, R-Kan., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) extended emergency grazing on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands on behalf of Kansas ranchers affected by the recent wildfires.
“USDA is using all of the tools available to help livestock producers recover from devastating wildfires in March,” Roberts said. “Allowing emergency grazing to continue on CRP lands through September will help ranchers stay in operation during such an uncertain time.”
The letter from Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is below.
In April, Chairman Roberts and Kansas First District Congressman Roger Marshall sent a letter to Secretary Perdue requesting USDA consider utilizing these actions.
The March wildfires burned 700,000 acres in Kansas.
