WASHINGTON, DC – U. S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) today announced a $1.6 million grant to the Area Mental Health Center in Garden City.
The grant will provide independent housing for very low-income persons with chronic mental illness. The site will consist of fourteen one-bedroom apartments with one two-bedroom unit for a resident manager. There will also be a laundry for the use of the residents and an office for administration, counseling and other supportive services.
The funds were awarded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities Program.
