Feb 08 2011
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today on the Senate floor congratulated Maj. General Vincent Brooks of Ft. Riley’s 1st Infantry Division on news of his promotion to become the commanding general of the U.S. Army Central Command and head of the Third U.S. Army at Fort McPherson, GA.
“General Vincent Brooks, remember that name as I am sure you will hear it again, will soon be receiving his third star and will be reassigned to Central Command.
“To anyone that has had the privilege of knowing General Brooks and his wife, Dr. Carole Brooks, this promotion and new command does not come as a surprise, especially to those that have served with him.
“Simply put, he is an inspirational leader with an outstanding record.
“From the Kansas Congressional Delegation, ‘General, well done, sir.’ You will be missed but our pride in your success and future success and the job you have done make all of us proud.”
Maj. Gen. Brook’s promotion must now be confirmed by the full Senate.
Senator Roberts recently attended the 1st Infantry Division, or “Big Red One’s” Uncasing Ceremony at Ft. Riley to honor troops returning from southern Iraq.
Maj. General William Mayville, deputy chief of staff for operations with International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, has been nominated to replace Maj. General Brooks.
