    WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded the Kansas Department of Commerce a $10 million grant to temporarily employ workers dislocated as a result of the recent floods to assist in the flood recovery and clean-up efforts.

    “I am pleased Kansans can take advantage of this significant grant,” Senator Roberts said. “It will help those in need of work while at the same time helping other victims get their lives back in order.”

    Senator Roberts has worked very aggressively on a federal level to provide assistance to those affected by the flooding. U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao personally contacted Senator Roberts today with the news of the grant.

    Under the Workforce Investment Act’s National Emergency Grant funds, The U.S. Department of Labor has initially awarded $5 million in funds with an additional $5 million to be awarded as needed.

    The following counties are eligible for the program: Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Butler, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Cowley, Elk, Franklin, Miami, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson.
