WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) today announced the Senate has confirmed the reappointment of Kansan Michelle “Miki” Bowman to be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. The final vote was 60-31.

Bowman joined the Federal Reserve Board of Governors on November 26, 2018 to fill a term that ends on January 31, 2020. Today’s confirmation is for a 14 year term that begins on February 1, 2020.

“Miki Bowman is a strong voice for community banks. She knows where the regulatory pain points are for small and medium-sized banks, and will be a consistent advocate to make sure rules and regulations are not one-size-fits-all. I am glad she has been confirmed for a full term,” Roberts said.

In 2015, Congress mandated that at least one seat on the Federal Reserve Board be designated for a community banking specialist.

Bowman previously worked as the Kansas State Bank Commissioner, where she oversaw hundreds of financial institutions in Kansas. She was also involved in her family’s cattle and farm operation.

Prior to moving back to Kansas in 2010 to work for Farmers & Drovers Bank, Bowman worked in Washington, D.C. for Kansas’ native son, Senator Bob Dole, served as counsel on the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and served in the Bush Administration at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
