Sens. Roberts and Moran Introduce Resolution Commemorating Kansas State University’s 150th Anniversary
Feb 13 2013
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran today introduced a resolution recognizing the 150th Anniversary of Kansas State University.
“A proud alumnus of Kansas State University, I am pleased to rise today to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the home of the ever fighting and always optimistic Wildcats,” Senator Roberts said. “Since its beginning, even before Kansas joined the union as a free state, all the way up to today, Kansas State University continues to provide a first rate education to thousands of students. I am proud of our history and look forward to the future as the University strives to become one of the top 50 public research institutions in the country. I have no doubt we’ll make it.”
“I am pleased to honor Kansas State University as our state’s first public university and America’s first land grant institution on its 150th anniversary,” Senator Moran said. “I have learned how special the K-State family is from my own two daughters who both chose K-State for their undergraduate education. Also, since Robba and I moved to Manhattan last year, it’s been good to get to know the residents of Manhattan. I know K-State’s next 150 years will be even brighter than the last.”
The resolution states: “Resolved, That the Senate recognizes and congratulates Kansas State University for 150 years of fulfilling the mission of a land-grant University.”
The full resolution is below.

Senator Roberts graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Journalism. In 2006, the Kansas Board of Regents surprised Senator Roberts by naming the University’s new home of the Biosecurity Research Institute “Pat Roberts Hall.” Senator Roberts fought to establish the Institute and to make plant and animal research a priority at Kansas State University and in the state of Kansas as a whole.
