WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts voted in favor of the Fiscal Year 2018 Omnibus Appropriations Act to fund the military and many key priorities for Kansas and the nation.
“This bill contains key provisions for farmers and ranchers and for our men and women in uniform,” Roberts said. “It has critical funding to improve school safety, to improve background checks for gun purchases, to fight the opioid epidemic and to improve our nation’s aging infrastructure including investments to rural broadband.
“I also am pleased we were able to negotiate a fix to the unintended consequences of the tax reform bill in regard to section 199A and farmer co-ops, which was having harmful effects on the market.
“Kansans are tired of funding bills getting caught in political crossfire. They want their government to function without brinksmanship. Many of the provisions in this bill have bipartisan support and have been debated in more than 70 congressional hearings.
“While I would much prefer voting on individual funding bills, this Omnibus Bill provides longer term stability for Americans to plan and to rely upon rather than the uncertainty of previous short-term funding patches and government shut downs that we have experienced.”
