Sep 10 2009
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) announced a $142,000 grant to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas for drug and law enforcement.
The grant will be used for law enforcement efforts to focus on decreasing the number of street-level illegal drug sales and reducing traffic citations in the designated area. Community policing goals include increasing the number of interactions between the police, residents and other stakeholders in the designated area. Prevention, intervention, and treatment goals include increasing youth and young adult self-esteem and developing youth leaders in the area.
In 2003, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City received official recognition as a Weed and Seed site from the Department of Justice. This is the site’s fifth and final award to implement its strategy.
The funds were awarded by the United States Department of Justice’s Community Capacity Development Office and made available by the Weed and Seed Program Guide and Application Kit Program.
