WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced a $500,000 grant was awarded to the Harvey County Drug Free Youth Coalition in Newton over the next five years.

The grant will assist the Harvey County Drug Free Youth Coalition in aiming to decrease alcohol, tobacco and marijuana usage among youth and adults over time, while strengthening the cooperation among communities, including nonprofit agencies and federal, state and local governments to prevent substance abuse by young adults.

The funds will go to law enforcement, education about trends in youth drug use, assessment of community readiness, creation of an action plan over the next five years, and the implementation of effective programs for youth and parents.

The funds were awarded by Office of National Drug Control Policy.
