Jun 17 2015
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), the most senior Marine in Congress, today hosted the inaugural Senate Marine Corps Caucus meeting. The caucus will focus on issues related to the unique war-fighting capabilities of the Marine Corps, including the safety, security, training, and wellness of the Corps.
“It is a privilege and honor to serve my fellow Marines in the U.S. Senate, and I’m honored to establish this group to focus on the unique mission our Marines play in our national security,” said Roberts. “It is important that every senator understands the issues important to the Marine Corps and their value to our national security. Today’s caucus meeting only strengthens the support our Marines have here in Congress.”
Today’s breakfast meeting was attended by Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, caucus members, and staff.
Roberts is one of three Marines in the U.S. Senate, along with Sens. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) who serve as co-chairmen of the caucus. Members include Sens. John Boozman (R-Ark.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), James Inhofe (R-Iowa), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Thune (R-S.D.), and Mark Warner (D-Va.).
Roberts, whose father was also a Marine, joined the Marine Corps as an officer in 1958, where he achieved the rank of Captain.
