    WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced that Barton County Community College and Wichita State University will receive $500,000 in grants to help low-income students apply to and attend college.

    The funds will be used to equip students with the skills necessary for success in college including academic instruction, preparation for college entrance exams and help with financial aid applications.

    There will also be funds for intensive basic skills development and short-term remedial courses to help low-income, first-generation military veterans successfully transition to postsecondary education.

    The following institutions will receive funding:

    The grants received funding under the Upward Bound Program of the U.S. Department of Education.

    Senator Roberts is a senior member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
