WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) voted in support of the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, which would provide regulators and law enforcement additional tools to prevent illegal robocalls and punish illegal robocallers.

“Today is a good day for consumers. The Senate passed, with my support, legislation that will crack down on robocall fraudsters and block deceptive calls that have bombarded just about every single person I know,” said Sen. Roberts. “I am proud of my colleagues for putting politics aside to address this serious consumer welfare crisis.”

The TRACED Act would increase the FCC’s ability to pursue intentional scammers by extending the statute of limitations for intentional violations from one to three years and eliminate the need for a citation before accessing liability. It would also require a protocol for caller identification to help prevent caller ID spoofing.

Senator Roberts is one of 84 Senators who cosponsored this bipartisan legislation.
