WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced $3.79 million available to the Kansas University Medical Center for a statewide broadband Internet network for health care services.
This rural health care pilot program will develop a statewide, broadband, private network linking approximately 44 health care facilities that will connect to Internet and facilitate telemedicine, health information exchange, and health information technology services.
“I am pleased to announce these funds especially for rural areas where health care is limited,” Senator Roberts said. “Improving access to quality health care is essential to preserving our rural way of life.”
The funding was awarded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Funds are made available through the Universal Service Fund (USF).
Senator Roberts is a senior member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee and co-chairman of the Senate Rural Health Care Caucus.
