Harold Stones of Senator Roberts’ Topeka Office Receives Military Award for Public Service

Honored for “outstanding contributions in support of Kansas service members”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today congratulated staff member Harold A. Stones, Special Projects Director in his Topeka office, on receiving the Army Commander’s Award for Public Service presented by LTG William Caldwell, IV, Commander, Combined Arms Center and Ft. Leavenworth and Commandant, Command and General Staff College and LTG (ret.) Robert Arter, former Commandant of the Command and General Staff College..

"Harold Stones is a true servant of the people of Kansas, especially members of the military and their families," Roberts said. "His devotion to those who wear the uniform and his love of our country are deserving of this honor. I am proud to have Harold on my staff and honored to call him my friend."

The citation reads: "Harold A. Stones is presented the Commander's Award for Public Service for outstanding contributions in support of service members in the State of Kansas from March 1997-June 2009 as a representative for Senator Roberts. Harold A. Stones has represented Senator Roberts at numerous deployment and redeployment ceremonies for Active, Guard and Reserve units participating in operations related to the Global War on Terror. He has been a recognized figure at all memorial ceremonies for Fallen Heroes from the State of Kansas and has been a champion of issues relating to improving conditions for Veterans and Wounded Warriors. Mr Stones’ actions reflect great credit upon him, the State and the United States of America."

In 2007, Stones was made an honorary member of the Ft. Riley Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club for his work in behalf of men and women in uniform.

Harold Stones, a Topeka resident, and native of Lebanon, Kansas, began working for Senator Roberts in 1997 following 30 years at the Kansas Bankers Association, first as director of research and most recently as Executive Vice President and CEO. He is widely known and respected throughout Kansas and has served on numerous task forces and commissions charged with community and economic development.
