    WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) today announced a $468,000 grant to Cloud and Republic Counties for the Jamestown Wildlife Area Project.

    The funds will be used to purchase over 1,100 acres in and near Game Keeper Marsh, Gun Club Marsh, Marsh Creek and Buffalo Creek along with 800 acres of emergent wetlands, 30 acres of forested wetlands, and 300 acres of associated grasslands. These funds were also used to purchase and restore minimum stream flows to the lower Republican River. The project is designed to improve the breeding, wintering, and/or migratory habitat for several bird species.

    The grant was awarded to Ducks Unlimited, Inc. With local matching and non-matching funds, the total project cost will be over $1.4 million.  The funds were awarded by the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund program. Senator Roberts is a senior member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
