    WASHINGTON, DC– U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) today announced over $1.1 million in seven grants were awarded to Kansas firefighters to improve homeland security.

    Senator Roberts said, “I am pleased to announce these funds, which are vital to improve firefighting efforts and first responder needs in rural Kansas.  It’s imperative to support our local fire departments.”

•    Centralia Volunteer Fire Department: $187,150 for Vehicle Acquisition

•    Hiawatha Fire Department: $122,523 for Fire Operations and Safety

•    Florence Fire Department in Marion County: $44,232 for Fire Operations and Safety

•    City of Fowler: $76,289 for Fire Operations and Safety

•    Wichita Fire Department: $542,433 for Fire Operations and Safety

•    Cherokee Fire Department: $54,387 for Fire Operations and Safety

•    Allen County Rural Fire District #3: $91,105 for Fire Operations and Safety

    The funds were awarded by the 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program under the United States Department of Homeland Security. The program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States.
