WASHINGTON, DC– U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced an over $100,000 grant was awarded to the City of Topeka to prevent and control crime in Shawnee County.

The funds will be used for technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment and supplies. The City of Topeka and Shawnee County will purchase equipment relating to Mobile Computer Terminals, portable radios and associated equipment.

Senator Roberts said, "I am pleased to announce these funds, which are vital to improving law enforcement efforts in the state of Kansas."

The grant was made available by the 2006 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. The JAG programs range from law enforcement programs, prosecution and court, prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment, and planning and technology improvement.

The grant was awarded by the United States Department of Justice.
