Senator Roberts: President Again Thinks he is an Automaker
Roberts Will Introduce Legislation Condemning Latest Executive Overreach
Feb 20 2014
TOPEKA, KS –Following the President’s announcement Tuesday issuing tougher fuel-efficiency standards for mid-size and large trucks, U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced he will lead an effort in the Senate protesting the President’s latest executive overreach by introducing a Resolution of Disapproval.
“The President once again thinks he is an automaker and a Member of Congress with this latest mandate on trucks,” Roberts said. “In fact, it is another end run around the Congress with the potential to create safety concerns and no measurable effect on climate change as indicated by his own EPA Administrator.”
The President announced certain trucks will need to meet greater fuel efficiency standards in addition to the 10 to 20 percent reduction they must already meet by 2018.
“Instead of letting the markets determine what kinds of trucks are produced, the President is doing it and in the end, it will be the consumer and the taxpayer who pay for it,” Roberts said. “I have already heard from many Kansans worried about this announcement increasing the price of trucks they need for their businesses.”
