WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) today announced over $3.9 million in loans for rural economic development in Kansas. The funding will go to rural utility and telephone cooperatives to re-lend funds to local businesses to create and retain jobs.

Midwest Energy, Inc.: $740,000

Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc.: $614,000

Sedgwick County Electric Cooperative Association, Inc.: $500,000

Lane-Scott Electric Cooperative, Inc.: $740,000

Rural Telephone Service company, Inc.: $740,000

Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc.: $600,000

"Spurring economic development in our rural Kansas communities is necessary at this time," Senator Roberts said. "I am pleased these funds will go to rural Kansas areas to create and maintain jobs and strengthen the local economy."

The loans were awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program. Senator Roberts is a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and an outspoken advocate of rural issues in Congress.
