Roberts Applauds Supreme Court Decision to Block Obama’s Executive Amnesty
Says Court ruling reaffirms president cannot “rewrite the laws”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) today praised the U.S. Supreme Court blocking President Obama’s executive action on immigration.
“Today's Supreme Court ruling is a victory in reining in President Obama’s executive overreach and restoring our country's separation of powers,” said Roberts. “The president has tried time and time again to go around Congress, but this decision reaffirms that the president does not have the authority to rewrite the laws to push his immigration agenda and unilaterally allow millions of illegal immigrants to obtain legal status.”
The Supreme Court’s 4-4 ruling in the United States v. Texas case affirms the decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit which ruled that the president’s executive amnesty program is against the law.
In April, Roberts joined 42 of his Senate colleagues in filing an amicus brief supporting the lawsuit, led by the state of Texas and backed by a majority of the nation’s governors and state attorneys general, challenging President Obama’s executive amnesty.
