Roberts Statement on Vote to Repeal Obamacare
Jul 28 2017
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) today released the following statement regarding his vote to repeal key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare:
“I am disappointed that we did not move a bill forward last night. As for what's next, there is only one thing of which I am certain: Obamacare will continue to collapse. Patients will continue to lose their coverage, those who have it will pay more, and options will continue to diminish. Inaction serves no one. As a member of the Senate HELP Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, we have an obligation to continue working to produce reforms that can rescue the American people from the escalating problems of Obamacare. I will not stop fighting to provide relief from the disaster that is Obamacare."
Since the health care reform debate in 2009, Senator Roberts has been an outspoken opponent of Obamacare. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Roberts fought against the flawed plan in both committees, and voted against the legislation on the Senate Floor. Senator Roberts, the co-chair of the Senate Rural Health Caucus, has supported several measures to repeal Obamacare in the seven years since its enactment.
