WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today issued the following statement on the news of U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy’s (D-MA) illness:

"I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Senator Kennedy’s illness and my thoughts and prayers are with Vicki and his family," Senator Roberts said. I have been privileged to work with Chairman Kennedy on the Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee. Although it is no surprise there are areas where we have a difference of opinion, there are also many areas where we worked together, particularly on childcare and disability issues. I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to my Chairman’s return to the Senate."
