WASHINGTON, DC– U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced over $596,500 in six grants were awarded to Kansas firefighters to improve homeland security.
Senator Roberts said, “I am pleased to announce these funds, which are vital to improve firefighting efforts and first responder needs in rural Kansas. It’s imperative to support our local fire departments.”
• Jackson County Fire District #2 in Soldier: $228,000 for Vehicle Acquisition
• Cowley County Fire District #1 in Dexter: $261,963 for Vehicle Acquisition
• Claflin Fire Department: $36,243 for Fire Operations and Safety
• Jackson County Fire District #2 in Soldier: $9,263 for Fire Operations Safety
• Thomas County Fire District #4 in Rexford: $7,581 for Fire Operations and Safety
• Caney Fire Department: $53,542 for Fire Operations and Safety
The funds were awarded by the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program under the United States Department of Homeland Security. The program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States.
