Physician and Health Provider Issues
As a member of the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, granting our health care providers the resources they need to continue to provide quality health care services to patients is among my top priorities.
I have been a long-time advocate for ensuring that providers have certainty regarding the payments they will receive under Medicare. That is why I supported the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (P.L. 114-10). This legislation repealed the flawed sustainable growth rate formula, or "SGR," which did not accurately determine payments for physicians under Medicare. This package replaces the SGR with a new payment model that incentivizes quality and efficiency for our doctors and other health professionals as opposed to the old system, which led to overbilling and increased costs. With this reform, we provide much needed certainty for our doctors and Medicare beneficiaries who rely on their care.
