North Korea

North Korea

North Korea has presented the United States with some of the most serious and persistent policy challenges post-Cold War era. Since the beginning of 2017, they have carried out over two dozen ballistic missile launches and conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test. All of these actions have been in violation of United Nations Security Council sanctions.

In response to the latest nuclear test, the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to impose new and stricter sanctions on North Korea, targeting their exports. Separately, Congress passed and the president signed into law sanctions on those who continue to facilitate North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs.

North Korea is developing the capability to launch missiles that can reach the U.S. homeland. In the interest of national security, I believe it is imperative that we continue to monitor the actions of North Korea closely and hold them accountable.
