Real People Harmed by President’s Short-Sighted Politics on Taxes

Periodically, Congress passes a bill that extends tax cuts and credits, which are set to expire without new congressional action.  Millions of hard-working Americans, especially business owners, farmers, ranchers, teachers and home owners, rely on various tax incentives to plan for the future, grow their businesses, or lower their personal tax burden.

Over the last month, the leaders of the House and Senate tax writing committees negotiated a bi-partisan deal that would have provided certainty for businesses and taxpayers to plan for the next two years, extending several tax provisions and making others permanent. However, that bi-partisan deal was sabotaged by President Obama.

President Obama’s executive amnesty grenade doomed the tax extenders deal. Negotiations unraveled, a veto threat was issued and bi-partisan compromises were killed. Because of President Obama’s ‘my way or the highway’ approach to leadership, Congress is forced, once again, to cobble together a one-year tax policy “patch” that no one wants.

America is fed up with these kinds of partisan games and the resulting gridlock. In the new Congress, the Republican Majority will work to reform the tax code, and provide much needed certainty for families and businesses.

Remembering Pearl Harbor

On December 7th each year, we remember that fateful day that launched our nation into World War II.  A day that, as President Roosevelt predicted, still lives in infamy.

It is a sad fact that there are fewer and fewer World War II veterans with us each year.  I encourage everyone to reach out to a World War II veteran in their lives. The World War II era truly produced our Greatest Generation.  So ask questions, listen to their stories, and thank them for their service to the country and the free world.

IRS Targeting Investigation Continues

I recently published an op-ed in the Washington Times about the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups – and the fact that the investigation is far from over.

"Lois Lerner, former IRS Exempt Organizations Director, and her Obama administration allies will now have to face that fact, as thousands of her "missing" emails have been found by the IRS inspector general."

Honoring Kansas Farm Bureau President

I was honored to be on hand last week in Manhattan, in front of a huge crowd gathered to congratulate Steve Baccus for his service as President of the Kansas Farm Bureau. It has been a privilege to work with Steve and the Farm Bureau as we endeavor to protect and advance the cause of Kansas farmers and ranchers.  Steve deserves great praise for all he has done for the Kansas farmer, and I personally appreciate his guidance over the years.

Steve has served the Kansas Farm Bureau for 17 years.  I wish him and the Kansas Farm Bureau well in this next chapter.

Participating in the Eisenhower E-Memorial

I was honored to take part in and I am pleased to share with you a video about the early years of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's life. It was my distinct privilege to help reflect on the ways growing up in Kansas influenced Ike, and to appreciate his service to our nation as a General and a President. Please take a moment and enjoy these tribute videos, or this "E-Memorial" to Ike from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission by clicking here.
