As a Marine, I strongly support the men and women who serve in the National Guard and Reserves. The citizen soldiers who make up the National Guard provide the United States with a vital war time and peace time capability in our effort to secure our way of life. I am a proud member of both the Senate National Guard Caucus and Senate Reserves Caucus, which were formed to serve as a voice in Congress for National Guard and Reserve members on defense issues. Among other issues, members of the Caucus work to ensure that the National Guard is manned, equipped, trained and resourced at a level consistent with their superb performance in the last decade.
I am proud of the work conducted by our Kansas Army and Air National Guard. Whether the Kansas National Guard is sending and manning critical medical capabilities in response to natural disasters across the homeland; flying KC-135 air refueling tanker missions overseas; or conducting important intelligence work in the fight against terrorism, we can all be proud of the outstanding contribution the Kansas Guard makes to our national security.
