Foreign Policy

Since the attacks of September 11, 2001, United States foreign policy has evolved to meet both the increasing global terrorist threat and the need for increased communication and cooperation with allies. A strong international United States presence increases our security at home, while promoting the tenants of freedom and democracy to people around the globe.

Clearly, our nation faces a new kind of threat in the War on Terrorism. The oceans no longer protect us. We know that terrorists continue to plan attacks against the United States and other civilized societies. I believe that through a strong foreign policy and firm commitment to the basic rights of all people, we will overcome those that use violence and intimidation to threaten our way of life. I believe through principled engagement with all nations, the United States creates opportunities to address current threats and their root causes, thereby improving our security and prosperity.
