Environment

It is important that Americans enjoy the benefits of clean air, soil, and water. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), air quality in the United States continues to improve. Since Congress passed the Clean Air Act in 1970, U.S. air pollution has been reduced by half – even though the nation’s population and economy continue to grow. We must continue our efforts to ensure steady improvements in air quality.

I understand the importance of protecting the environment for future generations. I also recognize the importance of striking a balance between federal regulation and policies that encourage private industry and the government to promote environmentally-friendly industries.
